Cleaning, Disinfecting, Storing Hardware

General Safety Notes

  • Never immerse the amplifier in water or cleaning fluids. The housing is not waterproof.

  • Do not use solvents, alcohol, or abrasive cleaners on the amplifier or connectors.

  • Always disconnect the amplifier from the USB cable before cleaning.

  • Follow your institution’s hygiene standards for devices used with human participants.

Cleaning the Amplifier

  • Wipe the housing gently with a soft, dry cloth.

  • If necessary, use a slightly damp, lint-free cloth with a mild soap solution.

  • Ensure no liquid enters connectors or seams.

  • Dry thoroughly before storing in the protective case.

Cleaning and Disinfecting Electrodes

Dry electrodes

  • Wipe surfaces with a soft cloth or disinfectant wipe suitable for skin-contact materials.

  • Avoid bending spring contacts.

Gel electrodes

  • Rinse immediately after use under lukewarm running water to remove gel.

  • Use a mild detergent for thorough cleaning.

  • For disinfection, immerse caps and gel electrodes in an approved disinfectant solution (e.g., quaternary ammonium compounds), following manufacturer instructions.

  • Rinse well with water to remove disinfectant residues.

Cleaning the EEG Cap

  • Hand-wash the cap with mild detergent in lukewarm water.

  • Do not machine-wash or tumble-dry.

  • Air-dry the cap completely before storage, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

Storing the Hardware

  • Store the amplifier in the supplied protective case.

  • Ensure electrodes and caps are completely dry before storage to prevent mold or corrosion.

  • Store at room temperature (10–30 °C), in a dry environment, protected from dust and humidity.

  • For long-term storage, maintain the amplifier battery at ~40–60% charge and recharge every 3–4 months to preserve battery health.

Best Practices

  • Schedule regular inspection of electrode condition (replace if corroded, bent, or worn).

  • Keep consumables (gel, wipes, cleaning fluid) stocked and check expiration dates.

  • Document cleaning and disinfection steps if required by institutional hygiene protocols.
